Here are some motivational sports quotes to help you dig down and bring out the best in you. There is no other place like in the sports arena to demonstrate and experience the power of pure determination.
Welcome
The reason why we are so drawn to sports is because of the excitement of two people or teams facing against each other to see who has greater skill and heart. If you play a sport, than these sports motivational quotes will mean something to you, but even if you don't, they can still apply in everyday life because much of what is experienced in sports, is seen in life as well. Every time we set and go after a goal, a challenge will appear. If you have the mindset of an athlete, you will see these challenges as you see a more experienced opponent. They are someone you can go up against to not only see where you stand, but to also improve your game.
It's no surprise that a mobile edition of SI was in the works. The publisher previewed a proof of concept video on YouTube late last year, showcasing the magazine on a generic tablet. The resulting product, released last Thursday amid the iPhone 4 frenzy, incorporates ideas from the concept video nicely (sans those creepy CGI hands). The app provides scan-through as well as swipe-though navigation of the magazine's issues, while a widget called "The Wheel" will allow users to send their favorite story or photo to Facebook or Twitter and suggest similar stories they might like to read. Weekly content includes "the best of the magazine and SI.com," as well as an assortment of additional features. The first week, which was available last Thursday along with the app, includes a video documentary, an interactive mock NBA draft, a panoramic photo of Pebble Beach's "Cliffs of Doom" (wtith highlights on the golfers who played there and their hole strategies), and an SI Original piece entitled "The Worst Team Ever," a piece by sportswriter Jimmy Breslin on the 1962 Mets.
After the death of Henry Luce in 1967, the creative freedom that the staff had enjoyed seemed to diminish. By the 1980s and 1990s, the magazine had become more profitable than ever, but many also believed it had become more predictable. Mark Mulvoy was the first top editor whose background contained nothing but sports; he had grown up as one of the magazine's readers, but he had no interest in fiction, movies, hobbies or history. Mulvoy's top writer Rick Reilly had also been raised on SI and followed in the footsteps of many of the great writers that he grew up admiring, but many felt that the magazine as a whole came to reflect Mulvoy's complete lack of sophistication. Critics said that it rarely broke (or even featured) stories on the larger issues in sports (drugs, violence, commercialism) any more, and that it focused on major sports and celebrities to the exclusion of other topics. The proliferation of "commemorative issues" and crass subscription incentives seemed to some like an exchange of journalistic integrity for commercial opportunism. Today, few people still call Sports Illustrated one of the best written magazines in America. More importantly, perhaps, many feel that 24-hour-a-day cable sports television networks and sports news web sites have forever diminished the role a weekly publication can play in today's world, and that it is unlikely any magazine will ever achieve the level of prominence that SI once had. The new SI promised interactivity, live sports scores, and the great sports coverage readers have come to expect, all wrapped in a beautifully designed application. Since the video's introduction, the iPad has been released and dozens of magazine properties have taken their brands and content to the App Store. Few have succeeded in matching the design or functionality promised by SI's initial prototype. Now, with the official release of the Sports Illustrated app, the video has finally come to life.
